Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture is located in southeastern Yunnan Province, bordering Guangxi to the east and Vietnam to the south. It has a subtropical plateau monsoon climate with an average annual temperature of 18°C, featuring mild winters and cool summers, making the climate pleasant.
Wenshan has a long history. During the Western Han Dynasty, it was part of the Juting Kingdom, and later belonged to the Nanzhao Kingdom in the Tang Dynasty. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Guangnan Prefecture and Kaihua Prefecture were established. After 1949, Wenshan Prefecture was formed, and in 1958, Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture was founded.
Wenshan is a multi-ethnic region inhabited by Zhuang, Miao, and other ethnic groups, with rich and colorful ethnic cultures, such as the bronze drum dance of the Zhuang and the Lusheng dance of the Miao. Local specialties include Sanqi Steamed Chicken, Wenshan Rice Noodles, and Bahang Chicken.
Wenshan is famous for its Sanqi (Panax notoginseng) industry, known as the 'Home of Sanqi' in China. In recent years, transportation infrastructure has been continuously improved, with the completion of Puzhehei Airport and the Yunnan-Guangxi High-Speed Railway, boosting tourism. Scenic spots like Puzhehei and Bamei attract a large number of tourists.
The best time to visit 文山 is Spring and Autumn (March-May, September-November).
Spring (March-May) has mild weather, with thousands of peach blossoms in Puzhehei, making it the best time for flower viewing.
Summer (June-August) sees lotus flowers in full bloom in Puzhehei, ideal for water activities, but with more rainfall, so be prepared for rain.
Autumn (September-November) is clear and crisp, perfect for hiking and outdoor activities, with Bamei presenting a paradise-like scenery.
During the Western Han Dynasty, the Wenshan area belonged to the Juting Kingdom, an important ancient state in the southwestern frontier.
On April 1, 1958, Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture was officially established, becoming the first ethnic autonomous prefecture in Yunnan Province.
The Yunnan-Guangxi high-speed railway (Nanning-Kunming passenger dedicated line) was fully opened, ushering Wenshan into the high-speed rail era and greatly facilitating transportation.
