Shijiazhuang is located in the south-central part of Hebei Province, in the hinterland of the North China Plain, with the Taihang Mountains to the west and the Hutuo River to the north. It has a temperate monsoon climate with four distinct seasons, hot and rainy summers, cold and dry winters, and an average annual temperature of about 13°C.

Shijiazhuang has a long history. During the Warring States period, it belonged to the Zhongshan State, in the Qin Dynasty to Hengshan Commandery, and in the early Han Dynasty, Hengshan Commandery was established, later renamed Changshan Commandery. At the beginning of the 20th century, it rose due to the intersection of the Beijing-Hankou Railway and the Zhengtai Railway, and became the capital of Hebei Province in 1968. Xibaipo was the seat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party during the War of Liberation and is known as 'New China started from here.'

Shijiazhuang has a diverse culture and is an important birthplace of local operas such as Hebei Bangzi and Sixian. Specialties include donkey meat huoshao, Jinfeng braised chicken, Gong noodles, and Gaocheng palace lanterns. Among them, donkey meat huoshao is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, famous nationwide.

Modern Shijiazhuang is an important node city in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration, with pillar industries such as biomedicine, equipment manufacturing, and electronic information. The construction of Zhengding New District is accelerating, the subway network is continuously improving, and Zhengding International Airport has opened multiple international routes. The city's appearance is changing rapidly.
