Located in eastern Sichuan Province, Guang'an lies in the parallel ridge-valley region of eastern Sichuan and the middle reaches of the Jialing River. It has a subtropical humid monsoon climate with distinct seasons and abundant rainfall. Huaying Mountain runs north-south through the area, while the Jialing and Qu rivers flow through the city, creating a unique landscape of mountains and waters.
Guang'an has a long history, once part of the ancient Ba State, and later established as Dangqu County in the Qin Dynasty. Summer is hot but Huaying Mountain is a summer resort; winter is mild but occasionally frosty. It is recommended to avoid the rainy season (June-August) to prevent affecting mountain climbing.
